Triangle Financial Planner Headlines 2009 Financial Fortitude Workshop
(Raleigh, N.C.) Community-oriented certified financial planner James M. Richardson, CFP®, ChFC®, outlined powerful financial strategies for women as keynote speaker at the 2009 Financial Fortitude Workshop hosted by the Raleigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The detailed hour-long presentation and interactive Q&A session at North Carolina State University’s McKimmon Center covered a range of important investment strategy and financial planning issues specific to women.
“Statistically speaking, women live longer than men, and have a longer investment horizon which brings with it unique challenges and opportunities,” Richardson said, adding that additional factors – including women making less than men, going in and out of the workforce to have children, and having smaller social security benefits – result in bigger long-term financial needs for women with smaller resources.
The lively question and answer period included many questions about emerging markets as well as queries about medical savings accounts and pension options.
Boasting almost 20 years experience in financial planning, Richardson helps clients review and understand their entire financial picture and build a long-term plan designed to meet their individual dreams and goals. His Delta Sigma Theta workshop is one of many outreach programs Richardson is engaged in to assist the general public with understanding basic concepts of financial and retirement planning. I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, how would I go about joining?
I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and want to know how I would go about joining. What are the requirements for membership? How many activities, volunteer hours, and recommendations do I need to have in order to become a realistic candidate for membership?
This past Spring was my first semester at my current school so I'm not as familiar with the members of the chapter here and I know that's one thing I need to work on in the coming semester. However I'm unsure on how I should interact with the members, should I attempt to speak with members or wait until they speak to me? When and how do I let my interest in joining the organization become known?
And what is a good source for finding out more about the organization's history?
check out the national website for membership requirements and a wealth of other information. also, check to see if the chapter at your school has a site. look for opportunities to hang around a Delta. you can get to know the Deltas on campus by attending their events, interact with a Delta on class projects, and be active in other campus organizations there maybe a Delta involved as well. when the time comes, Delta will announce when they are taking in new members. your interest will be evident when you attend the rush event. so sit tight. focus on having strong grades do community service that interests you and generally build up your own identity and character. the ideal candidate is an active woman. so don't be false and do activities x,y,z just to qualify. Deltas are often called upon to do the hard work and the sisterhood promotes continuous service. so think long and hard if you can make that kind of commitment.
